Mollydooker
Carnival of Love 2006
Australia, WINES
The 2006 Shiraz “Carnival of Love” was sourced from a single vineyard. The sensational nose, consisting of violets, lilacs, meat, game, leather, blueberry, and chocolate, leaps from the glass. On the palate this full-bodied wine somehow manages to combine power with elegance. The sweet tannins are well-concealed and the finish lasts for at least one minute. It will provide pleasure for 25 years but who will be that patient?

Copain Wines
Copain L'Hiver Syrah 2005
California, WINES
One of Copain’s best values every year is the Saisons des Vins Syrah l’Hiver, Guthrie’s interpretation of a St.-Joseph or Crozes-Hermitage. The 2005 reveals hints of tapenade, pepper, red cherries, and cassis along with zesty acidity and a fruit-driven style. About 15% whole clusters were used in its upbringing. - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 90pts. BIN:

Hewitt Vineyard
Hewitt Vineyards Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2004
California, WINES
This very famous vineyard is located on the Rutherford Bench, it was purchased in 1962 by William Hewitt who used Andre Tchelistcheff as a consultant while planting the vineyard. Beaulieu Vineyards purchased fruit from the vineyard for many years. The Vineyard was purchased by Chalone Wine Group in 2000, and is today run by Tom Rinaldi, the founding (and longtime) winemaker for Duckhorn. This Cabernet Sauvignon is entirely estate grown today.
"Tight, firm, concentrated and well focused, with a complex range of earthy currant, herb, anise, sage and cedary oak. The finish pulls it all together, with a wonderful aftertaste that homes in on the fruit and tannins." The Wine Spectator - 93pts
I recently tasted this with Tom Rinaldi, the winemaker, after being decanted for about two hours, it really began to show all that it has going for it. The terrior began to shine through, the typical notes of Rutherford of dark berries and currants along with a fine dusty minerality note.

Beaullieu Vineyards
B.V. Georges de Latour, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2004
California, WINES
The legendary BV Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon remains one of the finest expressions of Napa Valley winemaking. The Georges de Latour was created by famed winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff after his Cabernet won the Grand Sweepstakes Award at the Golden Gate International Exposition. The original wine was priced at an uprecedented $1.50 a bottle, the highest priced Californian wine at the time.
The vineyards for the wine are some of the Rutherford Benchs finest, along with great vineyard sites in Oakville and St. Helena. This is still one of California's classic Cabernet Sauvignons.
The 2004 vintage of this extraordinary wine offers intense aromas of black fruits, mocha, toast and briar. It is full bodied, with rich, mouth-filling tannins and deeply concentrated black currant, vanilla and anise flavors. This vintage will require seven to nine years of aging to reach maturity, yet tastes fine now—an excellent example of the vintage.

Talbott Vineyards
Talbott Sleepy Hollow Chardonnay 2005, Santa Lucia Highlands
California, WINES
This is the vineyard that put Santa Lucia Highlands on the viticultural map with their great Burgundian inspired wines.
The Sleepy Hollow is a giant vineyard that the Talbott family farms, they sell grapes to some of the top producers of both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in California, but naturally they keep the best lots for their own label.
This is a rich and complex Chardonnay with fine minerality and excellent elegance and finesse, the wine is barrel fermented then aged 12 months in French oak, plus another year in bottle prior to release. Complex and long, the wine was rated very highly by The Wine Spectator for the previous release, 2004. The 2005 will be more restrained and less tropical than the very ripe 2004.

Orin-Swift
Orin-Swift The Prisoner 2006, Napa Valley
California, WINES
The previous vintage (2005) of this wine was well received by our customers and the press, landing in the Top 100 for the Wine Spectator (#17?). We just tasted the new vintage and are very impressed with the quality, we actually feel the wine is as good and possibly even better than the 2005. As there is a touch more Zinfandel, a bit more Charbono and now a touch of Grenache in the mix, the wine is showing a bit more spice, concentration and flesh.

Antinori
Tignanello 2003
Chianti Classico, Tuscany, Italy
Tignanello is one of Italy's first 'super tuscans'. Meaning it is a wine that abandoned the Italian wine heirachy and DOCG designation of Chianti and Chianti Classico in order to produce a higher quality wine using 'illegal' (at the time) grapes in the blend. The laws have since changed and now embrace those illegal grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and even Syrah.
This vintage is a blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc - the blend in pretty consistant from vintage to vintage. Today this wine could actually be labeled as a Chianti Classico DOCG, but obviously the name and reputation of Tignanillo does not need the added bonus of DOCG or Chianti Classico.
Look for typical Tuscan Sangiovese notes and aromas of tobacco, dark cherry along with Cabernet notes like blackberry and blackcurrants. The palate is full-bodied, with fine, fruit tannins a touch of tar and tobacco lingering in a long finish. BIN:

This 2eme Grand Cru of St-Julien is always one of the finest in every vintage, very consistant and in general a reasonably priced offering. Anthony Barton, the owner is very classy and never tries to price his wines too high.
"This is an impressively endowed vin de garde that should age effortlessly for 20-30 years. How Anthony Barton continues to fashion uncompromisingly primordial Bordeaux that are always among the biggest and densest of all the St.-Juliens is beyond me, but he does it year in and year out." Chateau Leoville Poyferre
Ch Leoville Poyferre 2004, St-Julien, 2eme Cru
Bordeaux, France, WINES
Unfortunately this Chateau is no longer overlooked by the media and critics, as it had been for several decades. A 2nd Cru that is part of the famed Leoville property in St-Julien, 2004 may be the last really good value for this Chateau, and the quality has really gone way up in recent vintages.
"Along with Leoville Las Cases and a few others, this is among the stars of the appellation. Made in a more floral, supple, Margaux-like style, the deep ruby/purple-hued 2004 Leoville Poyferre exhibits sweet, broad flavors, and plenty of tannin lurking beneath the surface. However, the abundant cherry, black currant, licorice, and smoke notes obscure the tannic clout. This rich, powerful, broad beauty should be drinkable in 2-3 years, and last for two decades."
