Palmina Undici 2004
Winemaker and owner Steve Clifton has garnered an incredible reputation in California, his projects include the Brewer-Clifton wines which are near impossible to get. While Brewer-Clifton focuses on the grapes of Burgundy (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir), Palmina focuses on Italian grapes and wine styles. Very few Californian wine producers have managed to produce excellent wines from grapes such as Barbera, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo and Sangiovese and my experiences has shown me that the best results come from winemakers that have produced world-class Pinot Noir - which is the case here.
This Sangiovese has the hall-mark notes of a wine grown and produced in Tuscany, the notes of cherry, tobacco and earth combined neatly with impressive balance of tannins, alcohol and acidity. Oh and Robert Parker Jr. seems to like this wine as well.

Copain L'Hiver Syrah 2005
One of Copain’s best values every year is the Saisons des Vins Syrah l’Hiver, Guthrie’s interpretation of a St.-Joseph or Crozes-Hermitage. The 2005 reveals hints of tapenade, pepper, red cherries, and cassis along with zesty acidity and a fruit-driven style. About 15% whole clusters were used in its upbringing. - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 90pts.

Crociani Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2001
Along with Brunello di Montalcino, the Vino Nobile region produces some of Tuscany's most classic big Sangiovese based wines. This is one of our favorite wines for the money in the store. Classic Vino Nobile character of dark cherry, tobacco, violets and chalky minerality. Serious wine for an excellent price from a great Tuscan vintage.
