In February of 2016, Cairanne joined the elite ranks beside the likes of Chateauneuf du Pape and Gigondas when the area was awarded Cru status by the National Institute of Appellations of Origin. Seen as consistently producing the highest quality wines of all the villages in the region of Cotes du Rhone, the announcement couldn't have been better timed as the producers of Cairanne were awaiting the 2016 vintage bud break. With their first release under the new Cru status, Domaine de L'Ameillaud offers up this full, luscious, and approachable red that goes down too easy!
60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and rounded off with Carignan and Mourvedre, this Cairanne is the perfect representation of a blend of northern and southern Rhone. Soft notes of blackberries, cherry, and jam on the nose leads into a full and rounded palate of dark fruits and licorice with hints of vanilla. A smooth and generous finish has us going back time and time again for this French red!
