2012 Lail Cabernet Sauvignon J. Daniel Cuvee

California | Cabernet Sauvignon

Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media. 92pts

"A ripe, explosive Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon John Daniel cuvée bursts from the glass with a rush of intense dark fruit. Spice and mocha overtones add nuance, but the 2012 is very much a wine of the vintage. A crescendo of intense, dark fruit builds to the round, explosive finish. The 2012 is undoubtedly striking. It is also on the edge of being overripe. Most of this fruit was brought in from October 15 to 29."

Bright, deep ruby. Aromas of kirsch, licorice and minerals are lifted by Asian spices and an herbal nuance. Dense and sappy in the mouth, offering an intriguing combination of liqueur-like kirsch and cooler menthol, along with a suggestion of bitter almond. In the style of a big Pauillac, finishing broad and sweet, with a serious spine of ripe tannins and excellent length.
